Extrait de cet article:

The asteroid impact that killed off the dinosaurs 66 million years ago gave rise to the age of mammals, but not before nearly wiping them out, too, The Week reports. In a new analysis of fossils from Montana, Wyoming, and other sites in western North America, scientists estimate that about 93% of mammalian species went extinct after the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event, they write this month in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology. However, the wide range of the remaining mammalian species allowed their numbers to recover within just 300,000 years after the impact.
